We are one of the Lord Mayor’s & Sheriff’s Charities!
We are thrilled that Family Matters York has been chosen by the Lord Mayor of York, Martin Rowley BEM, and the Sheriff of York, Paul Doughty, as one of their three charities for 2025-26.
This year in the spotlight is a huge opportunity to raise our profile around the city and to be part of many fundraising events and activities.
We’d love for you to join us at the special events being held this year – see below for what’s coming up.

The Big Fundraising Civic Quiz & Dine
With Town Crier, Ben Fry
On Tuesday 2nd September, fundraisers and supporters gathered at The Orchid Vegan Restaurant for an exciting evening of trivia and delicious food.

Sheriff’s Assize of Ale
The annual ‘Sheriff of York Assize of Ale’ event took place on Saturday 20th September. Although the rain was persistent, a hardy core of charity fundraisers, local historians and supporters met to hear the Sheriff’s formal declaration followed by visits to several ale houses across the city. The original purpose of this medieval traditional was to taste the city’s ale and declare its worthiness. These days it is a wonderful opportunity to raise money for the civic charities.
The Great Piggin’ Civic Races
In November, we headed out for an evening of racing like no other! The pigs (don’t worry, they were all electronic!) wiggled their way down the course over several races, to much hilarity and delight for those who had picked the winners! Although we did not manage to choose a winning pig, the event raised much-needed funds for our work, so we are thrilled! Thanks to all who organised the event and those who attended.
